LEEDS — A Birmingham man riding a bicycle was killed as a result of an accident here early Wednesday evening.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office reports that 59-year-0ld Mark Lyle Miller was struck by a vehicle while cycling along U.S. Highway 78 in Leeds.
Leeds police officers are searching for the motorist, who reportedly left the scene.
“The decedent was a bicyclist traveling west on U.S. Highway 78 when he was struck by a motor vehicle,” Jefferson County Deputy Coroner William Yates stated in an email. “According to police, the vehicle that struck the decedent did not stop and left the scene. The circumstances surrounding the death are being investigated by the Leeds Police Department.”
