SPRINGVILLE — Springville Police Department (SPD) and Santa is set to distribute donations for Toys for Tots on Wednesday, December 22, 2021.
People were asked to bring unwrapped gifts to Springville Police Department for donations to Toys for Tots. SPD worked with Tami Spires at Springville Elementary School to make sure children have an amazing Christmas. Santa will hand-deliver the gifts to the children on December 22, 2021.
SPD began receiving gifts in early October for around 20 applicants and has received an outpouring of support from the community. Those who didn’t give toys made monetary donations to the department.
Even the Springville police officer’s wives are getting involved. The officer’s spouses are taking the financial donations and purchasing needed items to fulfill the wish list for the children.
“The City of Springville showed up and showed out,” Chief Wayne Walton said. “I’m proud of the citizens of Springville, but I’m really proud of our wives.”
Some requests from the children are specific needs that the officer’s spouses are paying extra attention to, to ensure those needs are met. Walton said the involvement from the wives has made a significant impact on the assembly of the wish list for the children. The spouses are taking time from their daily schedule to be there for the Toys for Tots program and the Springville community.
“The wives are going on Saturday; we’re purchasing whatever we were able to get out as well as getting all the gifts together in,” Walton’s wife, Stacy Walton, said. “It’s really cool because we all get to see all the officers out there doing things, but the wives are behind the scenes as well pitching in and being a part of the community as well and trying to take care of them.”
SPD plans to start taking donations year-round, the plan is to meet the needs of children no matter the circumstance.
The Springville Police Department would like to thank the Springville police officer’s wives: Emma Cain, Candice Malizzo, Heather Scott, Knyuada Jones, Linsey Stuart, Shannon Dobbs, Nancy Trammell, Kristen Shramm, Stacy Walton, and Mallary Keith.
