BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained a warrant for an arrest in connection to the murder of Raymond Cotton Jr., who was shot and killed on Christmas Day at a residence on 40th Street West.
“Birmingham Police detectives presented information on the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After an assessment of the information, detectives obtained a warrant for murder,” Birmingham Officer Truman Fitzgerald said in a prepared statement released Friday afternoon. “On December 31, 2021, Micah Spratt was taken into custody in Dallas, Texas by Dallas Police Department patrol officers. He is currently in the custody of the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office awaiting extradition to the Jefferson County Jail where he will be held with a $250,000 bond.”
Shortly after 11 a.m. on Christmas Day, Birmingham North Precinct officers were dispatched to 25 40th Street West on report of a person shot. Officers arrived on the scene and observed the victim lying unresponsive on the front porch of the location suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and transported the victim to UAB Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
