BIRMINGHAM — A pair of New Year shootings started 2022 on a somber note.
Just past 2 a.m. on January 1, a victim was shot on the 300 block of 24th Street South. He was transported to UAB Hospital where he died in surgery a little more than two hours later. The victim’s identity has not been released.
Police then responded to a call about a dead man found in a parked vehicle around 7:30 a.m. at an apartment complex located at the 800 block of Cable Car Court off of Valley Avenue
The victim was sitting in the driver’s seat of a compact four-door sedan that had the windows shot out. His body was still on the scene by 9 a.m., as technicians processed the scene and investigators canvassed the area. At least 19 shell casing markers were placed near the vehicle, according to published reports.
Authorities are unclear of the timing of the second shooting, as a passerby returning from their job discovered the body.
Police request that anyone with information on either of these shootings contact Birmingham homicide investigators at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
