JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 3-year-old child wound up in a local hospital after a gunshot accident on Friday evening, according the the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
“On Friday January 14, 2022 at 8:30 p.m., we received a call of a child being shot in the 500 block of Roanoke Street in the Forestdale community,” the JCSO reported via a press release. “Deputies arrived and found that the child was being treated for a gunshot wound to the leg. Family members were able to stop the bleeding and stabilize the child before he was transported to the hospital.”
Sheriff’s deputies stated that the child reportedly found a loaded firearm belonging to a family member and accidentally wounded himself. The child is expected to survive. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
