BIRMINGHAM — The pedestrian struck and killed by the Birmingham Patrol Unit on Saturday, January 15, has been identified.
According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, Ricardo Morales Cuin, 19, of Birmingham, was a pedestrian walking in the roadway on Tarrant Huffman Road, when he was struck by a Birmingham Police Department patrol unit traveling eastbound on Tarrant Huffman Road.
Cuin was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Just after 11 p.m., a pedestrian was struck by a patrol cruiser on Tarrant Huffman Road and Airport Boulevard while the officer was conducting a routine patrol,” Sgt. Rodarius Mauldin, the public information officer for the Birmingham Police Department, said in a written statement. “The pedestrian was in the roadway when struck by a police cruiser. The officer immediately attempted to render aid and summon medical assistance.”
