BIRMINGHAM — The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified an 18-year-old that was shot and killed in Fairfield on Tuesday, January 25, shortly before 5 a.m.
According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, Paul Evans Smith Jr., of Fairfield, sustained gunshot wound injuries during a reported assault that occurred in the 4400 block of Debardeleben Avenue of Fairfield. Deputies were called to the 4400 block of Debardeleben Avenue in Fairfield to investigate reports of a shooting.

A 23-year-old male who had multiple gunshot wounds was located nearby. He was transported to UAB hospital for treatment of his injuries.
“His condition is unknown at this time,” Sergeant Joni Money said. Detectives are currently on-scene and are conducting a full investigation into the shootings.”
