BIRMINGHAM — An arrest was made in a 2021 Birmingham homicide.
According to the Birmingham Police Department (BPD), Asia Askew, 30, of Birmingham, was arrested for the murder of Franklin Winston, 37, of Birmingham.
“Detectives presented the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office for review,” Sergeant Rodarius Mauldin said. “Detectives obtained a Murder Warrant ($150,000 bond) for the arrest of Askew. Askew is currently in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail.”

Winston was found dead just before 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, lying on the kitchen floor, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to the scene, and Winston was pronounced dead.
“The preliminary investigation indicates the deceased was involved in an altercation with the suspect prior to being shot,” Mauldin said. “This homicide appears to be domestic in nature. This incident was isolated in a private residence.”
