TRUSSVILLE — Trussville’s Tree Commission is set to celebrate Arbor Week, the last week of February.
According to Trussville’s Tree Commission, two groups of people on the Tree Commission have been organizing two different events for the last week of February.
“This will be a great time hope time for the community to celebrate Trussville’s beautiful trees,” Trussville’s Tree Commission Jean Cox said. “We hope everyone enjoys these events.”
Cox said the Tree Commission hopes to give away at least 1,500 trees with the goal that citizens will plant hundreds of new trees in the coming week.
Details for the week:
Tree Talk with Coach David Dobbs will be at the Trussville Public Library on Thursday, February 24, at 7 p.m. The Trussville Public Library is co-hosting this event.
Tree Planting Ceremony and Tree seedling giveaway will be at Civitan Park on Saturday, February 26, at 2 p.m. Giveaway and festivities will be on the hill near the veterans memorial with the tree planting next to the Cahaba Greenway near the green bridge.
“This event should be fun for families, with face painting, kids tattoos, free tree seedlings, and a big beautiful tree to be planted,” Cox said.
There will be a drawing for a great door prize at each event. Trussville’s Home Depot donated the prizes.
“The tree we are planting and the trees we are giving away have been donated by Alabama Power Company,” Cox said.
There will be a display of watercolor tree art from students in Kristin Miriam’s art class at Hewitt Trussville Middle School. In addition, the art will be on display at the Trussville Public Library throughout the week.
“The Trussville Public Library has been a huge help to us,” Cox said.
