CENTER POINT — Center Point had trouble most of the night — trouble scoring, trouble rebounding, and trouble stopping Wenonah’s larger players on the low blocks.

The Lady Eagles dropped their Sub-Regional game to the Lady Dragons, 60-51 to end Center Point’s season.
Wenonah’s pint-sized freshman Samarian Franklin took over for long stretches Monday night, scoring 21 points. When Franklin wasn’t scoring, she was annoying the Lady Eagles into multiple turnovers and feeding Ta’nia Peoples on the low blocks. Peoples finished with 10 points, as did Wenonah shooting guard Kenya Nunn.
Scoring was slow in the first quarter, with Wenonah on top 8-7 after the first period and pushed the lead to as many as 12 points by early in the third quarter. The presence of Peoples and Rianna Miller down low wore down Center Point as the game went on.
Center Point fought back behind senior team captain Tanita Swift, who put up 28 points to lead all scorers. Swift has shouldered the Lady Eagles’ scoring push all season. No other Center Point player scored in double digits.
The Eagles finish 13-10 overall and 6-2 in 5A Area 12 and an area championship. Wenonah moves on to face Lee in the next round of the playoffs.
