LEEDS — The Green Wave dropped their home opener to a strong Gardendale squad on Tuesday, February 22, by a score of 4-2.
Leeds pitcher Emma Machen took a shutout into the sixth inning, when the Gardendale batters finally touched her for a run. The Green Wave grabbed the lead back in the bottom of the inning when Tanner Galloway and center fielder Sophie Sisk scored on a double by Zoie Galloway.
It wasn’t enough, as Gardendale scored three runs in the top of the seventh and then silenced the Leeds batters to ice the game.
Zoie Galloway had a double and an RBI. Sisk walked in the first inning and stole second to threaten early.
Gardendale pitcher Natalie Snow allowed only three hits from Leeds, pitching a complete game and getting six strikeouts.
Leeds’ Machen struck out 3 and went all seven innings in the loss.
