BIRMINGHAM — The Jefferson County Coroner has identified the man killed in the officer-involved shooting on Wednesday, February 23, at 5:54 p.m.
According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, Keleen Rashad Connell, 27, of Vestavia Hills, sustained gunshot wound injuries when shot by Birmingham Police officers. The incident occurred in the 4300 block of Morris Avenue in Birmingham.
Connell was transported to UAB Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injures.
“The death is being investigated as a homicide,” Deputy Coroner William Yates said.

Birmingham Police officers encountered the suspect in the Tom Brown Village Housing Community. A foot pursuit ensued, which led to the 4300 block of Morris Avenue.
“During the interaction, the suspect was shot,” Sergeant Rodarius Mauldin said. “Officers immediately rendered aid and summoned medical attention from Birmingham Fire and Rescue.”
Reports state that no officers were injured during this incident, and Alabama Law Enforcement Agency will be the lead investigative agency.
