BIRMINGHAM — Birmingham man killed during an apartment shooting on Saturday, February 26, at approximately 5:55 a.m. has been identified.
West Precinct officers were dispatched to the 2600 block of Tempest Drive Southwest (Forest Hills Apartment Complex) on a report of a person shot.
Officers arrived on the scene and observed two adult males suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue (BFR) personnel pronounced Lewis dead on the scene. BFR transported the second male to UAB Hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
“The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was previously involved in a romantic relationship with a woman at the apartment and showed up to the apartment this morning where an argument ensued between the victim and another male prior to shots being fired inside of the apartment,” Officer Truman Fitzgerald said. “The victim was fatally struck by gunfire.”
Officers recovered a firearm near Lewis.
“BPD Homicide detectives will interview all witnesses,” Fitzgerald said. “At the conclusion of their investigation, detectives will present the case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office to see if any criminal charges will be filed.”
This is Birmingham’s 22nd murder investigation of 2022, including one justifiable death ruling.
