HOMEWOOD — Authorities here have arrested a Russian woman living in Irondale, accusing her of practicing medicine without a license for injecting people with illegally sourced Botox.
Homewood police say Albina Cherkes, 57, falsely represented herself as a licensed dermatologist. Sgt. John Carr told AL.com that Cherkes was arrested for illegally importing, dispensing and injecting unapproved foreign-sourced Botox.
Cherkes was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on February 28, and she is currently free on $15,000 bond.
Cherkes was taken into custody following a joint investigation by the U.S. Secret Service Birmingham Cyber Fraud Task Force, the Homewood Police Department, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners.
