BIRMINGHAM — A 21-year-old was killed in an apparent assault on Sunday, March 7, at approximately 6:16 p.m.
“West Precinct officers were dispatched to Fire Station 18 (200 Dugan Avenue) on a report of a person shot,” Birmingham Police Officer Truman Fitzgerald said. “Officers arrived on the scene and observed two males inside of a vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.”
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel rendered aid to the males and transported one of the males to UAB Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Mitchell was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fitzgerald explained that the preliminary investigation suggests the males were traveling in the 1200 block of Avenue W when an unidentified vehicle pulled alongside them and began firing shots.
“The death is being investigated as a homicide,” Deputy Coroner Williams Yates said.
Currently, there is no one in custody.
