LEEDS — A 62-year-old man was killed in a crash on the I-20 on ramp in Leeds on Monday, March 7, at approximately 6:01 a.m.
According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, Charles Michael Renew, 62, of Harpersville, was the driver of a Kia Optima traveling West on Highway 78 when, for an unknown reason, a Chevrolet pickup attempting a left turn onto the I-20 ramp and struck the Renew’s vehicle.
The impact to the left driver’s door resulted in Renew’s vehicle sliding off into the grassy area of the I-20 on-ramp.
Renew was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
