Unidentified body found in Birmingham apartment fire

BIRMINGHAM — The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office reports that a body has been discovered following an apartment fire here on Tuesday, March 8.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to a blaze at an apartment building located on the 900 block of 9^th Street SW, where they found the victim around 9:15 p.m. He was declared dead at 9:33 p.m. The cause of death has yet to be determined.

“The decedent was found inside an apartment by Birmingham Fire personnel responding to a report of an apartment building fire,” Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said. “The cause and origin of the fire is being investigated by the Birmingham Fire Department and, the circumstances surrounding the death is being investigated by the Birmingham Police Department.”
