UPDATE: Mayor Buddy Choat said 332 customers are without power, and Alabama Power estimated the repair to be early afternoon.
From The Tribune staff reports,
TRUSSVILLE — Officials here are uncertain when power along a stretch of U.S. Highway 11 will return after a power pole broke and lines went down early on Saturday morning, March 12.
Strong winds broke a power pole on Highway 11 at Praytor Road in Trussville, causing a power outage since 1:30 a.m. Right now, local authorities have no idea when power will be restored and are directing traffic away from the problem area. According to the Trussville Police Department, Alabama Power has been notified of the outage.
“They won’t give us any kind of ETA, Alabama Power won’t,” Cheif Eric Rush said. “So I don’t know, the pole went down about 1:30 this morning, so we’ve been sitting on it since then. We’re going to try to make some call and see if we can get it rushed up a little bit because it’s across a federal highway.”
Low hanging wires have caused the North- and Southbound lanes to be closed until repair workers can reach the scene.
“It has cracked in half, and the lines are hanging down too low for traffic to go through,” Rush said.
The story will be updated when more information is available.
