SHELBY COUNTY — No one was injured during a weekend wildfire that consumed approximately 450 acres of woods here.
However, the fire’s effects will linger as fire officials say that smoke and smoldering debris will still affect the area for several more days. According to The Associated Press, the blaze began near a residential area on Double Oak Mountain on Saturday and endangered several homes in the area.
Local fire departments and the Alabama Forestry Commission created firebreaks to try to rein in the blaze, and a state helicopter doused the fire with water.
No cause of the fire has been publicly released yet, though officials state that it started at an address in a subdivision near Vandiver.
