CEDAR FALLS, IOWA — A pair of local wrestlers won national titles this weekend at the USMC USA Wrestling National Showcase on Saturday.
Moody’s Cory Land won the championship at 126 pounds here on the campus of the University of Northern Iowa, where he’ll attend college after graduation. Land blew through his bracket, going 5-0, outscoring his opponents 46-12 and won the finals 11-1.
Hewitt-Trussville’s Hunter Jones won the Open championship at 182 pounds, scoring a pair of pins in the first two rounds, before shutting out his opponent 6-0 in the semifinals and winning a tight 8-5 victory in the finals.
Land has won five straight state championships in Alabama, while Jones has won back-to-back state titles as well.
