IRONDALE — Shades Valley won a pair of games on Monday, April 4, by drubbing Woodlawn 29-0 and 30-3 in a pair of mercy-rule games.
The Mounties improve to 13-10 on the season, and are 3-0 in 6A Area 11 play with a chance to clinch the regular-season area title next week against Huffman.
Here’s what happened:
Game 1: Shades Valley 29, Woodlawn 0
Jamiel Saliba threw a no-hitter over the course of five innings and helped his own cause by going 3-for-5 at the plate and driving in six runs. He struck out 13 batters and walked two.
Woodlawn committed 12 errors, and the Mounties scored multiple runs on those errors, rolling up 14 runs in the first inning, adding nine in the second and finally toting six more in the third.
Caden Myers added 3 RBIs, going 1-for-3 at the plate with two walks and scoring twice, while third baseman Kai Finch went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI while scoring twice and drawing a walk.
Game 2: Shades Valley 30, Woodlawn 3
Shades Valley kept its dominant scoring going, pouring in 19 runs in the first inning, while Stephen Manley got the win on the mound.
Avery Prichard went 1-for-1 with three walks and an RBI and scored 3 times. Jacob Mahand went 1-for-2 with 3 RBs, a walk and scored twice.
Manley went 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs, a walk, and scored four times. Josh Moore went 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored twice. Matt Wyatt went 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs, a walk, and scored twice. Caden Myers went 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs and scored once, while left fielder Josh Sales went 2-for-2 with an RBI and scored twice.
Mahand pitched three innings, allowing no hits, two runs and walking four while striking out eight. Manley pitched two innings, allowing one hit, one run, and a walk. He struck out 6.
