TRUSSVILLE — An amendment sponsored by Trussville State Senator Shay Shelnutt led to the Alabama Senate passing its own version of Flordia’s controversial “Don’t Say Gay” law Thursday.
The surprise amendment was added to the transgender bathroom bill. The amendment would stop K-5 elementary teachers from “instruction” on sexuality and gender.
The amendment was a surprising addition to the transgender bathroom bill, which requires students to use the bathroom based on the sexual orientation on their birth certificate.
The bill passed Thursday 26-5. The bill has to go back to the House for final approval.
