LEEDS — The Green Wave is rolling in. Leeds’ softball team is on a five-game winning streak where they have yet to surrender a run. In order, they’ve whipped St. Clair County 6-0, Carver 15-0, Pinson Valley 10-0, Parker 14-0 and 17-0.
On Thursday, they pounced all over Parker, winning both ends of a home-and-away series. Here’s how those wins went down:
Thursday, April 14: Leeds 17, Parker 0
Zoie Galloway pitched a shutout and went 4-for-4 from the plate, crushing a pair of homers and coming just a double shy of hitting for the cycle. Maddie Payne added a bomb of her own, as well.
Galloway tripled in the first, driving in a run and setting up the Green Wave for a three-run first inning. Over the course of the next two innings, Leeds added 10 more runs and then capped the game with a four-run fourth inning to invoke the mercy rule.
Sophie Sisk went 1-for-1 with an RBI and a walk while scoring twice. Sophie Gromko went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and scored twice, while Katelyn Howard went 1-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and scored three times. Payne went 2-for-2 with 3 RBI and a walk, and scored. Indya Rogers went 1-for-1 with 2 RBI and scored as well.
April 7: Leeds 15, Parker 0
Sophie Sisk walked and stole second to kick things off for the Green Wave as they pummeled Parker. Sophie Gromko followed up with a single of her own to move Sisk to third, who then scored on an error. From there, Zoie Galloway hit an inside-the-park home run to stake Leeds to an early lead. By the time the first inning was over, the Green Wave was already up 14-0.
Sisk went 1-for2 with a walk and scored three times. Gromko went 1-for-1 with an RBI. Galloway went 2-for-2 with 3 RBI and scored twice. Katelyn Howard scored twice and went 3-for-3 at the plate. Maddie Payne was 2-for-3 and scored, while Kinlee Gilley went 1-for-1 and scored.
The Green Wave plays next on Monday, April 18 when they travel to St. Clair County.
