BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police Department (BPD) has received a ruling in connection to the homicide investigation that occurred on Sunday, April 17, 2022, at approximately 9:30 a.m.
According to the BPD, 42-year-old Arthur Montrell Armstrong was found in a private residence in the 1200 block of Stonecrest Drive in Birmingham, unresponsive near a bedroom suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced Armstrong dead
“The preliminary investigation suggests a domestic argument took place between the victim and an adult female prior to shots being fired. The female remained on the scene,” Officer Truman Fitzgerald said. “Officers recovered two firearms from the scene including one laying near the victim.”
Fitzgerald said that investigators presented the information gathered to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office for review. Following the assessment, the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office ruled the actions justifiable. This investigation is reclassified as a Justified Death Investigation.
The Birmingham Police Department has 35 murders thus far in 2022 including 4 justifiable death investigations.
