TRUSSVILLE — It was senior night for Ada Weems, marking the last home game for a young woman who will be attending Birmingham Southern in the fall. Weems and the Hewitt-Trussville club lacrosse team fell short in an epic comeback bid, 8-6 against a very good Oak Mountain squad.
Weems plans to play lacrosse at Birmingham Southern as well. While the home-schooled Weems isn’t technically a Hewitt-Trussville student, she was allowed to play with the club team because her homeschool association doesn’t field a team.
“My school zone doesn’t have a team, so I’m glad to be able to play somewhere,” Weems said after the game. “I’ve been playing since third grade.”
Weems plans to major in psychology.
Sophomore Hadley Ekonen had three goals against Oak Mountain, while Weems, Lillian O’Neal and Landry Watson each scored a goal. Taylor Fleeman was in goal for Hewitt-Trussville.
“We came real close last night,” head coach Tom McCormick said. ” … we grew up a lot this season. That team beat us 15-1 early in February.”
