TRUSSVILLE — For the first time ever, the Hewitt-Trussville Middle School boys won the Metro title, blowing out the closest competition — Simmons Middle School in Hoover — by 41 points.
The Huskies had 3 individual event winners from the meet. Dylan Cope (110 Hurdles and High Jump), Jacob Hollis (400m Dash), and James Kelly, Delvecchio Alston, Jeremiah Hughes, and Darrion Evans (4 x 100m Relay).
Cope finished with 28 points individually to lead HTMS.
The girls team finished in fourth place, with Jayda Hammonds scoring 24 points to lead the team.
“Both our boys and girls teams had a great season,” HTMS head track coach Logan Cornutt said. “Both teams worked extremely hard all season long and I am so proud of all they accomplished. This was an awesome group of athletes, and I am so thankful for the opportunity to have coached them. We will use this success to continue to build our middle school program and get ready for the upcoming cross country and track seasons.”
