IRONDALE — The Mounties romped to their second 15-0 victory over Huffman in two days and claimed their second straight 6A Area 11 title here on Wednesday, May 4.
Jenna Paxton got things started with a triple on the first at-bat of the day, then scored when Haylee Knight singled, the start of a 14-run onslaught in the first inning for the Mounties.
Alyssa Butts singled to move Knight to third, and the Knight stole home to make it 2-0 Mounties. Butts stole third, and then Ashlyn Barnett doubled to center to score Butts. From there, Mayah Tarver walked and then Bethany Moran doubled Barnett and Tarver across the plate for a 5-0 lead.
Carleigh Blackwell ended up hit by a pitch, and then K Franklin walked. Knight singled on her second at-bat of the inning, to driv in Blackwell, and then Butts hits an inside-the-park home run on a fly ball to right field. That made it 10-0, Mounties.
Kennedy Allen doubled to left and scored when Barnett reached on an error.
Tarver then walked, and Moran singled to score Barnett and Tarver. Blackwell reached on an error and scored Moran. While the Mounties still threatened, they were forced to settle for a 14-0 lead in the top of the first.
They put up one more run in the top of the second when Barnett hit into a fielder’s choice and Butts scored.
Paxton got the win, pitching three innings and allowing two hits. She struck out six and walked one.
Huffman earned its way into the title game when Woodlawn forfeited its elimination game against the Vikings earlier in the day.
