ALEXANDRIA — These Blue Devils are dangerous. Just ask the No. 1 team in 5A. The Blue Devils beat top-ranked Alexandria twice in the 5A Area 11 tournament, blanking the Cubs in a 4-0 win to claim the tourney championship here on Thursday, May 5.
Hollie Graham went seven innings, striking our four and allowing four hits while issuing a pair of walks. But Graham controlled the Cubs’ lineup and kept them scoreless throughout.
Moody got on the board early, taking a one-run lead when Kendall Trimm reached on an error to advance Riley Mitchell across the plate.
In the fifth inning, Ryleigh Hodges singled and scored when McKenzie Phillips tripled on a line drive to left field, and then Libby Higgins sacrificed Phillips home on a fly ball to center field. Maddie Barfield kept the inning alive for the Blue Devils with a single, and Trimm reached on another Alexandria error. Emma Kile scored Barfield on a line drive to make it 4-0, and Graham had all the cushion she’d need for the win.
Mitchell went 1-for-1 and scored, while Barfield went 1-for-3 and scored. Trimm went 1-for-3 with a double, while Kile went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Skylar Black was 1-for-3, and Faith Myers was 1-for-2.
