CLAY — Clay-Chalkville Middle School (CCMS) 8th graders designed cards to send a Tuskegee Airman for his birthday.
According to the Jefferson County Board of Education, Tuskegee Airman, Retired Sgt. Victor W. Butler of Road Island will be turning 100 on May 21, 2022. For his birthday, he’s hoping the public will send him birthday cards; 8th graders at CCMS are making his birthday wishes come true.
“I would hope that he would understand how appreciative we are and proud as Americans of him and how appreciative we are for what he’s done for us,” CCMS teacher Dr. Nefertarie Yancie said. “Also, personally as African American, how he’s paved the way for us.”
WBRC states that 350 birthday cards were sent to Butler from CCMS. Butler has received thousands of birthdays from 41 different states.
