OXFORD — Moody freshman shortstop Emma Kile robbed Hayden’s Aubrey Gunter of a perfect game in the first round of the AHSAA 5A baseball playoffs, but it wasn’t enough as Hayden took the win over the Blue Devils, 1-0.
Gunter threw seven innings for the Wildcats, allowing just the one hit and striking out six.
Moody’s Hollie Graham was no slouch herself, pitching a complete game and allowing one run on four hits, walking two and striking out four.
Hayden scored in the bottom of the fourth after three consecutive singles loaded the bases and Taylor Arledge was hit by a pitch to bring the Wildcats’ only run home.
Moody will play the winner of Satsuma vs. Brewbaker Tech in the elimination bracket on Field 2 at Choccolocco Park at 2:15 p.m.
