BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police Department (BPD) is investigating a shooting that injured two children on Tuesday, May 24, at approximately 12:30 a.m.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and transported both children to Children’s Hospital.
The 4-year-old’s injuries are non-life-threatening, and the 1-year-old’s injuries are considered life-threatening. Both are believed to be family members (unknown exact relationship).
“BPD investigators believe the shooting is accidental and a result of one of the children “playing” with a firearm,” Officer Truman Fitzgerald said. “Adults occupied the home at the time of the shooting.”
The story will be updated when more information is available.
