ST. CLAIR COUNTY — A two-vehicle crash claimed a Ranburne woman’s life on Sunday, May 29, at approximately 5:40 p.m.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), Deborah Barrett, 62, was killed when the 2018 Honda Goldwing motorcycle she was a passenger on was struck in the rear by a 2006 Nissan Altima, driven by 66-year-old Joe Jenkins of Arcadia, Lousiana.
Barrett was thrown from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred on Interstate 20 near the 150-mile marker, approximately seven miles west of Pell City, in St. Clair County.
The operator of the motorcycle, Garry Barrett, 63, was transported to an area hospital with unknown injuries. Jenkins was taken into custody on charges of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Manslaughter, and Assault.
Nothing further is available as Troopers with the ALEA Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
