LAUDERDALE COUNTY — A single-vessel crash claimed the life of a Colorado Springs man on Wednesday, June 1, at approximately 7:30 a.m.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), James E. Busha, 79, and Gerald W. Busha, 70, of Winfield, were fishing on a 14-foot flatbottom boat when the vessel struck a bridge pillar on the Patton Island Bridge, which caused the vessel to capsize, ejecting both occupants into the water. Both men were in the water for an extended period of time before they were noticed and assisted by individuals within the area.
James Busha was pronounced deceased at the scene. Gerald Busha was transported to North Alabama Medical Center for medical treatment.
The incident occurred on Pickwick Lake near Patton Island Bridge in Lauderdale County.
Nothing further is available as Troopers with the ALEA Marine Patrol Division continue investigate.
