BIRMINGHAM — Hewitt-Trussville’s Riley Quick has been named the Alabama Sports Writers Association “Mr. Baseball” for the state of Alabama.
Quick, a hard-throwing right-hander who can toss four different pitches from the mound, signed to play collegiate ball with The University of Alabama. Quick beat out Hartsell’s Elliot Bray and Pike Liberal Arts’ Drew Nelson, who have both signed to play at Auburn.
Quick was named Mr. Baseball on Sunday at the ASWA’s 50th convention in Birmingham.
He was 13-1 on the season and posted a microscopic 0.92 ERA, struck out 130 batters overall and pitched back-to-back no-hitters at one point during the season.
Quick is the second straight pitcher to win the Mr. Baseball award, and the first-ever Husky to win the award.
