MOODY – After being tabled twice, a resolution on accepting the public streets in the Avalon subdivision was approved at a meeting of the Moody City Council on Monday, June 13.
In a previous meeting, the council tabled the resolution to examine the costs of accepting the streets for public upkeep and maintenance. Last month several residents voiced their concerns about the roads near their homes being tended to as they had not had maintenance since 2019.
At last night’s meeting, Mayor Joe Lee said there was an estimated 75 percent for private costs and 25 percent from the city. The resolution was passed unanimously.
Before the resolution to accept the streets was passed during the regular meeting, Lee was recognized for his part in the city government. Councilwoman Linda Crowe said Lee has been mayor since 2003 and was on the council since 1992, marking 30 years.
“I don’t know if the City of Moody realizes what a fine person we have as a mayor,” Crowe said. “And to do it for 30 years is saying a lot.”
The recognition was made by the League of Municipalities, which gave Lee a certificate that was presented by Crowe.
The council heard from department heads for the month of May, with Police Chief Thomas Hunt reporting 1,524 calls, 49 arrests, 85 warning tickets, 117 citations, 112 reports, 79 misdemeanors (closed 71), and 55 felonies (closed 39), and police vehicles drove 16,152 miles. In addition, $1,505 were spent on vehicle maintenance.
The fire department reported 187 calls, five fires (one residential, one vehicle, three grass, woods, or rubbish), 111 medical calls, 11 vehicle wrecks, nine public service, 27 lift assists, 24 false alarms, and one mutual aid. The average dispatch to enroute time was 3.9 seconds and the average dispatch to arrival time was 7.5 seconds.
