TRUSSVILLE — A pair of siblings are making their marks as young martial artists.
Nora and James Potter, ages 10 and 7 respectively, have been training in martial arts since they were each 3 years old. In the fall of 2020, they began competing on the ProMAC regional martial arts circuit covering Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee and Texas. Each ended the 2020-2021 year at No. 1 in their age/rank divisions and earned regional and divisional championship awards.
This year the two are making their presence known at the national level with the North American Sport Karate Association. James is currently ranked No. 1 in the nation in five different divisions for 6-7 year olds, while Nora holds the number one title in 10-11 year olds in weapons and second in open-hand forms.
Both kids are gearing up for a busy summer season heading to Atlanta, Orlando, Baltimore and New Jersey for top national competitions, most with thousands of competitors.
Nora and James are the youngest children of Will and Heather Potter, owners of Birmingham Martial Arts, which has an established location in Trussville and a growing location in the Liberty Park community in Vestavia Hills.
