BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police Department (BPD) is investigating the death of a Birmingham man at the Keeton Correctional Facility on Saturday, July 16, at approximately 7:30 a.m.
Officers were dispatched to the scene and, upon arrival, were notified that Taylor was transported to St. Vincent Hospital by private vehicle.
Taylor was pronounced dead by hospital staff.
BPD states that the preliminary investigation revealed Taylor was exiting the facility when he was approached in the parking lot by the gunman. The gunman fired several shots, fatally wounding Taylor.
The suspect fled the location traveling southbound on 7th Street North in a white sedan.
BPD said the victim was targeted, and the suspect is at large. However, detectives have not identified a motive in this homicide.

This is the 67th murder investigation of 2022, with six justifiable death investigations.
