Tommie Cathryn Byrd, 94, of Birmingham, passed away on July 14, 2022.
She was born to W. E. Hinesley and Gertrude Smith Hinesley on December 7, 1927, in Cullman County, Alabama. Mrs. Byrd spent her early life in Carrollton, Georgia, where she graduated from Carrollton High School.
Byrd was a talented seamstress and worked as a telephone operator. She was of Baptist faith and a devoted Christian. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who enjoyed crafts, sewing, and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, William C. Byrd; her parents and two brothers, Delton Hinesley and Clint Hinesley, and a daughter-in-law, Cheryl R. Byrd.
Mrs. Byrd is survived by her children, Linda C. Hendrix (Lonnie), Brenda B. Brown; William C. Byrd, Jr. (Janet); David Byrd (Vicki); grandchildren, Amy H. Kester (Keith), Jason A Hendrix (Starla), Robyn N. Howard (Jesse), Nathan Brown (Angel), David M. Byrd (Lesley), Allison B. Pearce (Nate), Amanda B. Byrd, April Everett (Chris), Brooke Howard, and Bryan Lokey (Ariana); twenty-nine great-grandchildren; one niece, Frances Cox (Ben).
The funeral for Mrs. Byrd will be held at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19, with visitation for family and friends held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. A committal service will immediately follow the chapel service at Jefferson Memorial’s adjoining cemetery. Pastor Robert Everett will preside over the service.
Pallbearers will be the grandsons of Mrs. Tommie Byrd.
