TRUSSVILLE — The Trussville Police Department (TPD) has charged the shoplifter who was arrested on Monday, July 18, at approximately 11:18 a.m.
According to the TPD, Isaiah Core Jr., 49, of Homewood, has been officially charged with theft of property third degree and attempting to elude. Core will be transferred to the Jefferson County Jail, where he has a $7,000 bond.
On Monday, July 18, officers were dispatched to Walmart on a shoplifting call.
“Walmart employees advised that a black male wearing a white tee shirt, tan shorts, and a black hat was attempting to leave the store with merchandise that had not been paid for,” Lieutenant Clint Riner said. “When Walmart employees attempted to contact the individual, he ran from the store into the parking lot and jumped into a black GMC Yukon that was waiting for him in the lot.”
Riner said that officers were able to locate the GMC Yukon in the parking lot near Ross Dress for Less. TPD attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle.
“Once the vehicle stopped, the theft suspect jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot across the parking lot in the direction of American Family Care,” Riner said. “The suspect continued to run into the wooded area between American Family Care and Walgreens.”
Officers were able to set up a perimeter and give verbal commands for the suspect to exit the wooded area.
“The suspect complied and was taken into custody without injury or incident,” Riner said. “Walmart was able to recover their property.”
