UPDATE: All lanes of traffic on I-59 Southbound are now open.
From The Tribune staff reports
TRUSSVILLE — A vehicle fire on I-59 Southbound around 6 p.m. has caused the roadway to be blocked.
According to the Trussville Police Department (TPD), the Trussville Fire Department and TPD were dispatched at mile marker 138, before Exit 141 Chalkville Mountain Road, to extinguish a truck and a trailer that was on fire.
“The cause of the fire is unknown,” Lieutenant Clint Riner said. “The fire department blocked the roadway to extinguish the fire. There are no injuries.”
Riner said the Alabama Service Assistance Patrol (ASAP) is currently opening one lane for traffic to pass through. The other lanes will be blocked for an undetermined amount of time.
“The vehicle may have to sit there for a while depending on how hot it got before ABC can load it onto their wrecker,” Riner said.
Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes.
