BESSEMER — Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified the inmate who died at William Donaldson Correctional Facility on Sunday, July 17, at approximately 7:10 a.m.
According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, 45-year-old David Daniel Sloan was serving a sentence for burglary from a 2011 conviction out of St. Clair County.
Sloan sustained blunt force injuries during a reported assault by another inmate.

“He was transported to UAB Hospital for treatment and was discharged from the hospital three weeks later, on Thursday, July 14, 2022,” Chief Deputy Coroner William Yates said. “Three days later, the decedent was found unresponsive in the prison infirmary where he was receiving further care for his injuries.”
The inmate has been identified, but the family has not yet been located and notified of the death.
The circumstances surrounding the death are being investigated by the Alabama Department of Correction – Law Enforcement Services Division.
