PINSON — An 18-year-old was shot and killed in Pinson on Monday, July 25, around 11:30 p.m.
According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, Lacorian Renard Maxwell, 18, of Clay, sustained gunshot wound injuries during a reported assault.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies received multiple calls to the 911 center that 6 to 8 shots were heard being fired in Pinson.
“Shortly afterward, a call was received advising that a male had been shot in a vehicle in the 6400 block of Kimberly Loop in Pinson,” Lieutenant Joni Money said. “Upon arrival, deputies found an 18-year-old male, who had been shot to death while inside of a vehicle.”
Maxwell was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
Maxwell graduated in May of 2022 from Clay-Chalkville High School.
“Lacorian Maxwell can best be described using the words kind, respectful and polite,” said former Clay-Chalkville principal Michael Lee. “He was a young man that went about his days at CCHS always willing to help anyone. He was in dual enrollment classes through Jeff State and was planning to be a welder. Lacorian was also a library aide this past year. He was depended upon greatly and given many responsibilities that he always completed with a smile. Today is a sad day for our faculty & staff. I know that I speak for the whole CCHS family when I say that Lacorian’s family and friends are in our prayers.”
Authorities are still seeking a suspect in the case.
“The shooting this morning is under investigation at this time. I really can’t speak to something ongoing,” Pinson Mayor Joe Cochran said. “I really hate when this happens close to home, and anywhere really, and I pray for all involved.”
