BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police Department (BPD) is investigating a homicide that occurred on Saturday, August 20, at approximately 12:39 a.m.
According to the BPD, Jamri Smith, 22, of Birmingham, was found lying in the front yard suffering from multiple gunshot wounds when West Precinct Officers responded to numerous calls of shots fired at 4421 Ishkooda-Wenonah Road Southwest.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to the location and pronounced Smith dead on the scene.
“The preliminary investigation indicates the victim was having dialogue with an unknown male outside prior to being shot,” Sergeant Rodarius Mauldin stated. “The suspect(s) fled the scene and is currently at large.”
Detectives have not established a motive in this homicide.
This is Birmingham’s 86th murder investigation of 2022, with six justifiable death investigations.
