CLAY — Two games in The Tribune coverage area have changed locations for this Friday, August 26.
The 2021 6A state title rematch between Clay-Chalkville and Hueytown was originally set to be played in Hueytown, on the Golden Gophers’ new turf field. However, the turf will not be ready by game time, according to the Jefferson County Board of Education.
“As you may be aware, both Hueytown and Center Point received artificial turf fields this summer,” John Huddleston, a communications liaison for the board, announced Tuesday afternoon. “Crews have been working diligently for months now to install it. Both fields are very close to completion but unfortunately, due to the recent rain we’ve been experiencing, those fields will not be ready in time for Friday night’s games.”
That means that Center Point’s game — slated to be its home opener — against Aliceville will now be moved to Legion Field.
Both games are still set to begin at 7 p.m. on Friday.
