MONTGOMERY — Attorney General Steve Marshall announced that the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals has upheld the murder conviction of Arthur Leon McKinney, Jr., 45, of Pinson.
According to Attorney General Steve Marshall’s office, McKinney was convicted in Jefferson County Circuit Court on August 17, 2021, for the murder of his wife, Robin Caudill.
“The evidence at trial showed that on July 22, 2018, at 4:12 a.m. McKinney called 911 seeking medical help for his wife, who allegedly fell in the shower,” Attorney General Steve Marshall’s office stated in a press release. “Responding officers found Robin Caudill dead and noticed that there was blood everywhere. A pathologist determined that Caudill sustained multiple blunt force injuries and that her cause of death was homicide. The jury rejected McKinney’s story as to what allegedly happened on the night of his wife’s death and found him guilty of murder.”
Jefferson County District Attorney Danny Carr’s office successfully prosecuted this case and obtained a guilty verdict. McKinney was sentenced to ninety-nine years’ imprisonment for his crime. McKinney sought to have his conviction reversed on appeal.
“Arthur McKinney murdered his wife in cold blood and attempted to cover up his crime, “Marshall said. “However, he could not escape justice and a 99-year prison sentence.”
The Attorney General’s Criminal Appeals Division handled the case during the appeals process, arguing for the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals to affirm McKinney’s conviction. The Court did so in a decision issued Friday, August 26, 2022.
Marshall commended Assistant Attorney General Laura Irby Cuthbert for her successful work on this case and thanked Jefferson County District Attorney Danny Carr and his staff for their valuable assistance in defending the murder conviction.
