BIRMINGHAM — A Birmingham man was shot and killed Wednesday evening, and the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has released the victim’s identity.
“The preliminary investigation suggests the victim and an adult male got into a verbal argument that led to the suspect firing shots at the victim,” Officer Truman Fitzgerald stated.
Willis was transported to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:21 p.m.
Fitzgerald stated that East Precinct Task Force officers gained information on the suspect’s whereabouts while on the scene. As a result, officers surrounded an apartment in the 6700 block of Kimberly Avenue.
“They observed the suspect attempting to enter a vehicle and flee the scene,” Fitzgerald stated. “East Precinct Task Force Officers took the suspect into custody free of any incident. The suspect will be transported to BPD Headquarters, where Homicide detectives will question him.”
This is Birmingham’s 91st murder investigation of 2022, including six justifiable death investigations.
