BIRMINGHAM — A Birmingham correctional officer assigned to the Custody Service Division was arrested for an apparent assault on an inmate on Sunday, August 25.
“The Birmingham Police Department took immediate action consistent with the Birmingham Police Department’s Use of Force Protocol,” Lieutenant Rodarius Mauldin stated. “Brock was relieved of duty pending an internal investigation.”
BPD stated the findings of the internal investigation led investigators to pursue criminal charges. Detectives presented the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office for review.
“After an assessment of the case, an Assault 2nd warrant was issued for the arrest of Lavetta Brock,” Mauldin stated.
Brock was taken into custody and transported to the Jefferson County Jail, where she will be held on a $15,000 bond. Lavetta Brock has been with the BPD as a correctional officer since July 2021.
“The Birmingham Police Department will continue to hold personnel to a high ethical and moral standard,” Mauldin stated.
