The event was held at the Zamora Temple and was sponsored by Vivian Mora State Farm.
Here are a few of the highlights of his update:
The City of Irondale is working to become a “recreational destination” and has recently purchased a large tract of land every month, including:
- The Zamora Shriners Temple, which will soon be called the “Irondale Civic Center.”
- Land on Highway 78 near Leeds;
- Hospital property; and
- 12 acres from the Church of the Highlands, which will consolidate with another 188 acres to form 200 acres of continuous trails to border the Cahaba.
Other updates:
- A master plan has been created.
- The City is upgrading the fire department’s equipment.
- The occupational tax has been reduced from 1% to .75% effective October 1.
- A total of $200,000 has been set aside for Covid grants for small businesses. These grants
range from $2,500 to $10,000 and are available to companies with 50 or fewer
employees. - The City is restructuring the business license system, which has not been done since
2007. - Property taxes have been raised to help keep up with inflation and also to do the things
