IRONDALE – The Irondale Police Department (IPD) announced the arrest of a violent assault suspect Tuesday, Nov. 1, at approximately 3:37 p.m.
According to the IPD, 21-year-old Navaeh-Ojore Timothy-Carl Payton turned himself into the Jefferson County Jail. Bond has been set at $1,000,000 for the Rape First Degree charge and $15,000 for the Burglary Third Degree charge.

On Wednesday, Oct. 26, at approximately 11:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of Crestwood Boulevard to investigate a felony assault.
“The victim was still on the scene and was able to give a description of the suspect and what vehicle he was driving,” Lieutenant Mark Meadows stated.
A short time later, at approximately 3 p.m., Irondale Police located and stopped the suspect’s vehicle on Grantsmill Road at the I-20 east entrance ramp. Payton, the sole occupant of the vehicle, fled on foot into a wooded area next to the interstate. Irondale Police, with assistance from other law enforcement agencies, began an extensive search but were unable to locate Payton.
At approximately 10:45 p.m. on Oct. 26, Irondale Police dispatched officers to a burglary in progress at a convenience store in the 3300 block of Crestwood Boulevard. After accessing video surveillance, police determined that Payton was also the suspect in the burglary.
