BIRMINGHAM — An arrest has been made in connection to a homicide investigation of an Irondale teen that occurred on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at approximately 9:53 p.m.
According to the Birmingham Police Department (BPD), Lavell Onterria Burton, 19, of Birmingham, was arrested in connection to the murder of Stephen Lawrence Scott, Jr., 19, of Irondale, who was shot and killed while in the 1700 block of Aspen Run (Adonna Apartments).
“Birmingham Police Detectives presented information on the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office,” Sergeant Monica Law stated. “After an assessment of the information, detectives obtained a warrant for Capital Murder, Attempt Murder, Robbery First Degree, and Discharging into an Occupied Vehicle.”
Burton is in the custody of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, where he will be held without bond for the Capital Murder charge and bonds totaling $180,000 for the other charges.

On Tuesday, Sept. 20, officers arrived on the scene when they located Scott lying unresponsive inside of a vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Officers also located a second adult male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service (BFRS) personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced Scott dead. BFRS transported the second victim to UAB Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
